Need a cab?  Try Taxi Magic, a free online taxi booking service.  Want to know what food options are available at your departure gate?  Go to GateGuru for a database of shops and restaurants at more than 150 airports.  For airline reservations, try hipmunk.com.

Other well-liked apps include Foursquare, TripIt and Yelp.

Best loved device?   An extra long extension cord.

YouTube Train Channel

Amtrak has launched a YouTube channel to complement its presence on Facebook and Twitter.

Tips on travel, safety and information on programs such as Trails and Rails will be featured in the videos.

Historic films and passenger experiences will also be shared.
